WIFT

Reimagining Job searching & recruiting

Mobile App Design | Hyperlocal | Award winning project

About the project

The startup, Wift was looking to build a platform that would match the employer and job seeker based on skillset, compensation and location. The goal of the project was to simplify the recruiting process by concentrating on the essentials of the process as well as adding convenience for the job seekers by providing the exact job requirements & making it easier for them to approach companies.

My Role & Team

Role: Senior UX Designer at Fractal Ink Design Consultancy

Team: 2 (Including me & Senior User Interface Designer)

Project Date & Timeline: November 2017 (4 months)

Location: Mumbai, India

My Contribution: Designing end-to-end user experience of the mobile application, which included, coming up with an apt name for the brand, brainstorming, studying global job hunting & recruiting trends, creating task-flows & low-fidelity & high-fidelity wire-framing

Outcome

1. Fractal Ink received the CII Design Excellence Award 2018 in the Interaction Design category.

2. The app received a 3.9/5 star rating on the Play-store.

3. More than 10,000 people installed the app

Problem Statement

1. Lengthy job descriptions & Inadequate feedback

Job seekers need to find a position that suits them and their abilities. The process of searching and applying for such a position is riddled with additional challenges that make job hunting an often unpleasant, frustrating experience.

2. Content heavy resumes & mismatched candidates

The goal of a recruiter is to find an appropriate applicant for the position by streamlining the hiring process. But they often hit a rut and realize that they cannot find employees who are qualified for the jobs they are searching to fill.

Users

Job seekers & Recruiters

We identified people who were searching for jobs and understood their pain-points & needs while job searching. We also spoke to HRs & Recruiters to understand what were their criterias when looking out for an ideal candidate.

Below are a few points mentioned by them

RE-DEFINING THE PROBLEM STATEMENT

How might we simplify the job finding & recruiting process for the job seekers and recruiters?

Sketches & Wireframes

The app starts taking shape...

From onboarding to dashboard to creating job profile/ company profile cards. This app was full of interesting challenges, here are a few wireframe samples I created for the app.

Exploring ways to represent the content

Digital wireframes made me re-consider some pieces of information. I prioritised the content to be used and explored multiple ways to write the content. I learnt about the different kinds of interactions that could be used to transition between frames

Visual Designs

Quick match making for job seekers & recruiters

By focussing on prerequisites like core skills, preferred location and compatibility, the app presents seekers and recruiters with suitable prospective matches in the form of profiles.

These profiles can then be liked, disliked or discarded.

Hassle-free resume creation

A resume needs to lay emphasis on the strengths and capabilities of a seeker.

With the simple 2-step resume creation, it becomes quick and easy to highlight the skills which in turn helps in connecting the right jobs with the right candidates.

Intuitive Dashboard

The dashboard summarizes all recent activities of the candidate or the recruiter, on the app.

Concise & complete job description

Job descriptions need to have sufficient information to help seekers make a decision. The app focuses on the highlighting specifications like Core skills, work function, and CTCs to attract the interests of suitable candidates.

One point access

Be it managing multiple job postings, shortlisting candidates/ job profiles, keeping a track on various communication channels. The app keeps all the information in one place.

Results & Challenges

Measuring Success

The Wift app went live and we received many comments on the overall performance. Following Google’s HEART framework, there are a few metrics that I want to consider keep a track success of application.

  • Satisfaction Rating & Reviews - Since the app focused on simplifying the recruiting process and adding convenience for the job seekers, I want to track how the users are feeling through the kind of reviews they write, this will help in identifying what to include and improve.

  • App downloads - Most users do not download apps unless they are of repeated used. This metric will help in identifying the popularity of the app.

  • Returning users - I want to track how often users return to the mobile app, this will help in measuring how valuable is the app.

  • Average Time spent & feature usage - I want to observe how people use the app, the keywords they use to search and the actions they take. This will help in further providing personalized recommendations.

  • Churn Rate - Measuring the rate at which people uninstall the app will give me an insight into the real issue like lack of updates or app crashing issues.

Challenges I faced

  • With the tight timeline & project limitations, we compromised on user testing of the app. With the availability of some more time, I would have invested my efforts into getting user reviews of the mobile application, it would have given me a chance to dig deeper into the designs created.

  • I would also spend some more time on conducting secondary research, this would have helped to refine the scope of the project.
